Today, on my various rounds locally, I caught up with Transform Chief Executive Paul Mitchell along with Surrey High Sheriff, Elizabeth Kennedy (pictured below). Transform is an innovative local charity that provides housing and support to some of the most vulnerable across our community (the Elmbridge branch is in Walton).
I am a huge admirer of what Transform do, and the dedication of their teams. They have certainly felt the financial pinch recently, and there is a combination of factors relevant to this, including the proposed cap to local housing allowance.
The wider picture is that Elmbridge charities – as many local public services – face high costs (particularly around accomodation) compared to other parts of the country. I believe there should be greater recognition of that local burden, and I will be taking up their case with the relevant arms of government.
