Elections to Parliament’s Brexit Committee

Yesterday, I put myself forward as a candidate for the new House of Commons Select Committee on Exiting the EU. The members are elected by MPs from each party according to a quota system, and I am delighted to have won one of the seats.

Chaired by Labour MP Hilary Benn, the Committee will serve a crucial role in scrutinising the government’s approach to Brexit, and making clear to MPs and the wider public the choices and trade-offs during the forthcoming negotiations.

The other nine Conservatives elected today were: Alistair Burt, Maria Caufield, Michael Gove, Andrea Jenkyns, Jeremy Lefroy, Peter Lilley, Karl McCartney, Craig Mackinlay and John Whittingdale.
