On Friday, I went along and spoke to Year 6 pupils at Thames Ditton Junior School about the role of an MP. I then took questions on everything from support in the community for those with disabilities to the differences between state and independent education.
Afterwards, I stayed behind for a chat and update with Headteacher, Nick Fry and the Chair of Governors, Bronach Hughes. We discussed some of the key issues affecting the school, including the challenge of local recruitment given the high cost of living in Elmbridge.
Finally, I had the great privilege to sit in on a group of pupils rehearsing for a theatrical role play, explaining (in entertaining fashion) some of the key moments in British history – from the Vikings and the Norman Conquest to the Battle of Hastings (pictured below). It was great to visit one of the excellent primary schools in our borough.
