On Thursday, I followed up on the letter I sent to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, about the expansion of Heathrow airport, in Parliament.
Mr Grayling announced a framework of proposals on the third runway, which will be subject to consultation. I took the opportunity to raise the local assurances I want to nail down for Elmbridge, in particular on noise levels and air quality. I also called for a change of policy on flight paths from the current, arbitrary, policy of concentration of flights, which blights communities in areas like Molesey, to a fairer policy of dispersal.
This is only the beginning of the process. But, Mr Grayling gave a positive reply. You can read our exchange in the House of Commons here. It is the first step in the right direction towards securing the local guarantees we need. I plan to follow up with a specific debate on the impact in Elmbridge.
