On Monday, I met with Concern and Help for East Elmbridge Retired (CHEER), a local charity run by Mark Michelmore and his fantastic team of volunteers. CHEER arranges home visits and outings for elderly Elmbridge residents who would otherwise be at risk of being isolated and lonely in the local community. They are currently helping 80 clients in the Elmbridge area with a team of 35 volunteers.
CHEER are a lovely group of dedicated volunteers dealing with an important issue. Their help and support makes elderly people feel included and engaged. I talked to all of the members present who asked me a range of questions on anything from local bus services and planning issues to Brexit. CHEER run 20 events every year, and they have recently been awarded Elmbridge’s joint chosen charity of the year.
