Today, I went along to support Helen Watson, CEO of Elmbridge Rentstart, at a reception in the House of Lords. Elmbridge Rentstart does a great job supporting homeless people in Elmbridge on low incomes to access accommodation in the private rented sector. This helps to promote independence for vulnerable people – around 25% of the people the charity helps are under 25. The charity provides advice to around 350 a year and provided housing to 132 clients last year, 47 of whom are now in work.
The aim of the event, in partnership with the charity Homeless Link, was to launch ‘Future Focus’ – a set of principles to ensure a sustainable future for the supported housing sector.
