Today, I caught up with Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Schools, Mary Lewis (pictured immediately below), to talk through the plans for new schools and expansions acros the borough. We talked through progress with delivering our two new local free schools, Cobham Free School and Walton Heathside, as well as progress with the expansion of Rydens Enterprise School.
Mary and I went on to discuss some of the challenges our local schools in Elmbridge face with special educational needs, and what is being done to strengthen the support available. I find these meetings invaluable in keeping track of progress and the various issues that arise, and I really appreciate the dedication of Mary and the team at Surrey County Council.
Later on, I visited Cobham Free School at their junior school on Portsmouth Road. We discussed the fabulous progress being made by the pupils and teachers in terms of attainment, the interim senior school site in Molesey, and the future Munro House site in Cobham. I want to support headteacher Michaela Khatib and Chair of Governors Howard Morris (pictured at the bottom) in every way I possibly can.
