Today, I visited Esher Friendship Centre. The group, coordinated by Frank and Gill Smith, is a social forum for retired people to meet like-minded local residents and make friends in the area.
The group meets every month at Claygate Church and run a varied programme of weekly events including walks, quizzes, lunches and visiting places of interest. I spoke to the group about how I became a MP, how the parliamentary system works and my role as Justice Minister. I then took questions on a range of issues including local planning, housing and Brexit.
Friendship Centres are invaluable for helping our senior citizens to feel included and engaged within the community. You can read more about the Esher Friendship Centre here.
