Today, as the local constituency MP for Esher & Walton, I met with Transport Minister Baroness Sugg to discuss Heathrow expansion. In the meeting, I registered local concerns that have been raised with me about noise levels, air quality and future congestion, and I was grateful for an update on the recently published Heathrow Expansion Airports National Policy Statement.
In particular, we discussed the mitigation package for local areas affected by noise, and air quality monitoring. I also raised the issues of concentration of flight paths and stacking, which are particular concerns for residents in Molesey and Walton. If you wish to contribute views directly, the National Policy Statement is currently subject to consultation here. It is vital we get the right mitigation package in place for Esher & Walton constituency – particularly on noise and air quality. I look forward to nailing down further details with the Department for Transport and Heathrow in the months ahead, as part of their plans and preparation for the third runway at Heathrow.
