To mark World Book Day, I enjoyed stopping by the World Book Day event in Parliament this week.
World Book Day’s mission is to promote reading for pleasure. They create opportunities for more children from all backgrounds to experience choosing and owning a book.
The increase in young people’s reading rates under this Government is one of our proudest achievements. In 2009, under Labour, England ranked 25th for reading in the OECD PISA rankings. In 2022, under this Conservative Government, England’s ranking has risen to 13th.
Further to my meeting with senior management at Glenlyn Medical Centre, I wrote to Healthwatch Surrey – an independent body responsible for listening to local communities and holding GP surgeries to account – asking for them to visit Glenlyn to provide independent advice to patients.
It was good to sit down with Helen Watson, Andy Robertson, and the team at Rentstart recently to discuss their Annual Review 2022/23 and hear more about the important work they are doing to end homelessness in our area.
It was great to meet with the new owner of Sandown Sports Club, Will Saville, alongside his colleague, Angus Baillie, for a tour of the site and to hear about their plans for renovation.
